Wilson Medical Center Honors Ronda Stapleford, LPN, with the 2024 Marie Kneebone Award for Nursing Excellence

Wilson Medical Center is proud to announce Ronda Stapleford, LPN, as the 2024 recipient of the esteemed Marie Kneebone Award for Nursing Excellence. This award, named in honor of the late Marie Kneebone, a dedicated nurse whose career spanned over five decades, recognizes outstanding contributions to patient care and exemplifies the highest standards of the nursing profession.
Marie Kneebone, a beloved figure in the WMC community, began her nursing career in 1935 after graduating from the Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas. Her 50-year tenure at Wilson County Hospital (now Wilson Medical Center) left an indelible mark on both her colleagues and patients. Known for her unwavering commitment to patient advocacy, her cheerful disposition, and her professional integrity, Marie Kneebone set a high bar for nursing excellence. Her legacy continues through this annual award, established by her family in 2015, to honor a nurse who embodies her core values.
Ronda Stapleford, LPN, this year’s award recipient, has been a dedicated member of the WMC nursing staff for over six years. As an LPN, Ronda is recognized not only for her clinical skills but also for her compassionate approach to patient care. Her positive and enthusiastic demeanor, coupled with her professionalism, makes her a respected leader among her peers.
The selection criteria for the Marie Kneebone Award include being an RN or LPN with at least three years of service at WMC, involvement in direct patient care, and a full-time or regular part-time status. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to patient advocacy, a high degree of professionalism, and leadership in safety practices. The award recipient also chairs the selection committee for the following year, ensuring the continuity of excellence in the evaluation process.
Ronda’s colleagues describe her as a true patient advocate and a role model within the nursing community. She has consistently exhibited the qualities that the Marie Kneebone Award seeks to honor: dedication, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in patient care.
An award ceremony was held during Hospital Week, and featured a formal presentation of a distinctive stethoscope, symbolizing the award. Ronda’s name was also added to the plaque in the hallway by the nurse’s station. The Marie Kneebone Memorial Fund in the WMC Foundation supports this annual award, perpetuating Marie’s legacy, and inspiring future generations of nurses.
