Tom Hood, Chief Executive Officer
Wilson Medical Center welcomed Tom Hood as Chief Executive Officer on Monday, May 22, 2023. Tom comes to Wilson County from Brookhaven, Mississippi, where he served as Chief Operating Officer at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Hood served in that capacity for ten years and was primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital and seven clinics. In addition, he served on various committees in the local community as well as the Mississippi Hospital Association.
Mr. Hood comes to WMC with extensive executive and administrative management experience. His career in healthcare spans 37 years and includes previous positions as Chief Executive Officer, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Assistant Administrator of Operations, Vice President Support Services, and Executive Director of Heart and Vascular Program. He is also a veteran and served ten years as an officer in the Army Medical Service Corps.
Hood is married to Rev. Susan Hood, who is an Ordained Deacon in Full Connection of the United Methodist Church. Rev. Hood currently serves as pastor of two churches in the Mississippi Conference, Church Hill UMC and Washington UMC. The Hoods have two adult daughters. Sarah teaches primary school internationally, currently in Singapore. Mary Claire is an Occupational therapist in Houston, Texas.
Lori Smith, Chief Financial Officer
Lori Smith is the Chief Financial Officer for Wilson Medical Center. As CFO, Lori leads and oversees finance strategy, planning, and financial reporting, among other duties. She works collaboratively with the CEO, board of trustees, senior leaders, and the entire Wilson Medical Center team to create a continuously improving atmosphere of safety, innovation, and financial stability while maintaining integrity and finding new ways to enhance financial performance and operations efficiency.
She has over 25 years of financial experience in the healthcare industry and has served in executive positions in various organizations. Smith earned her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Fort Hays State University.
Lori is married and has three children and three grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Sheila Mitchell, Administrative Assistant to the CEO
Sheila Mitchell, Administrative Assistant to the CEO, joined the Wilson Medical Center (WMC) family in April 2018. She was hired as the Marketing/Foundation Assistant, then was appointed to her current position in August 2022. Sheila has had 36 years of assistant/administrative experience in the healthcare industry, working for three different medical practices before joining WMC. She loves the variety, continual learning, and opportunities to offer support where needed that her position brings.
Sheila belongs to the Independence Toastmasters club as well as the WMC Employee Morale Group. Over the years, she has enjoyed volunteering for a variety of local organizations including Home Sweet Home Ministries, Community Missions for Improved Housing, Hannah's House Ministries, and the Moving Forward with Momentum program.
Sheila is an Independence, Kansas, native. She is married to Chris Mitchell, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Home Sweet Home Ministry in Independence, as well as the Director of the Community Access Center. He is very active in the community, is a performer/songwriter, and is one of the organizers of the Independence Museum's Meadow Lark Lounge Songwriters Round. Sheila and Chris have four adult sons: Ryan, Chance, Collin, and Brantley. Sheila enjoys spending time with her loved ones (including her two chihuahuas, Boo and Bootsie), going to the lake in the summer, dancing, watching movies, going to concerts, gardening, photography, and reading.
Francie Currie, Director of Rural Health Clinic Operations
Francie Currie began her career as a medical office manager for the private practice of Bert Chronister, M.D. In 2017 Dr. Chronister joined Wilson Medical Center as a provider with Neodesha Family Medicine and Francie joined the hospital as manager of the practice. In 2020, she added the title of Director of Rural Health Clinics Operations for Cherryvale Family Medicine, Independence Family Medicine, and Neodesha Family Medicine.
Francie is a Kansas native and she and her husband call Neodesha home. Francie is an active civic member in the Neodesha community. She has held a variety of leadership roles as a volunteer with local organizations, including the Neodesha Arts Center, Neodesha Chamber of Commerce, and currently is the President of the Neodesha Community Foundation.
Kevin Myers, Director of Business Services
Kevin answered his calling to healthcare as a dietary aide at the age of 16. He has gained much knowledge throughout his career serving in multiple capacities including direct patient care, pharmacy, supply chain, Revenue Cycle, Information Technology and Business Services. He began his career at Wilson Medical Center in 2016 and is currently the Administrative Director of Business Services.
Kevin is married to Sara, and they are proud parents of four children and two grandchildren. Kevin and Sara are active volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin, Missouri, where they have been volunteering for over 20 years. Kevin is currently pursuing his master’s degree in healthcare administration.
Michelle Bohannon, Director of Quality, Risk & Compliance
Michelle Bohannon began her career with Wilson Medical Center as a registration and billing clerk in 1984. She then went to Mary Grimes School of Nursing and obtained her registered nurse degree in 1992. After a one-year period of working at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville as an ICU nurse, she returned to Wilson Medical Center. After her return ,she became a staff nurse on the geriatric psych unit, which quickly evolved into a Program Director/Nurse Manager position which she held for 8 years, until the closing of the unit. Michelle transferred to the position of Risk/Quality Manager later adding Director of Compliance as part of her job description. She has continued in that same position to date. Other roles that Michelle has filled during her employment with Wilson Medical Center have been Director of Nursing as well as Education and Safety Director. Michelle has continued to work with the geriatric population throughout her nursing career by working part-time at other facilities.
Michelle was born and raised in Neodesha along with her husband Jamie. Family is priority and she enjoys spending any time she can with their two sons, two daughters-in-law and grandson.
Erica Johnson, Director of Marketing
Erica Johnson is a “marketing guru” who is passionate and committed to helping Kansans live healthy, happy lives. Erica began working at Wilson Medical Center in 2015 as a part-time fitness instructor. She soon added the role of Manager of Community Health and Wellness, where she developed strategies to improve the health and well-being of Wilson County residents, while also promoting the critical access hospital. Erica now serves as the Director of Marketing for Wilson Medical Center. She executes marketing campaigns driven by data collection, enriched collaborations, and effective storytelling. Erica has a deep understanding of the healthcare needs of the county’s residents and brings that experience to many other organizations, civic groups, and coalitions that she is involved with. She also currently serves as the chairwoman of the Neodesha Active Transportation Advisory Board and is a member of the Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition, as well as various other civic organizations. She resides in Neodesha with her husband, Devin, and two sons, Tripp, and Krew.
Tiffany Poloschan, Director of Human Resources
Originally from Columbus, Kansas, Tiffany relocated to Canton, Ohio, in 1994 and earned an AA in Paralegal Studies from Kent State University. After 17 years in the legal field, she sought a career change, returning to Kent State to pursue a BBA in Human Resources Management. Tiffany holds SHRM and SPHR certifications, as well as Master Trainer and Curriculum Proctor credentials through NCCER. In 2023, she returned to Columbus to be closer to family, including my mother, sister, and three nieces. She enjoys spending summers at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, cooking, painting ceramics, and spending time with her two dogs, Bristol and Rhaenyra.
